—EXPLORE THIS EXHIBIT—
In the first half of 1998, Gateway dropped the “2000” from their company name in order to connote a more mature image in hopes of luring more corporate customers. The G6-450XL is an early example of the rebranding, and was their top-of-the-line model offered in the latter half of 1998. It was nicknamed “The Screamer” in advertisements due to its specifications and inclusion of the legendary 3Dfx Voodoo2 3D graphics accelerator. This made the model suitable for playing games that could use 3D accelerators like Half-Life and Quake II.
